WynnBet Names Ian Williams Head of Digital Division

WynnBet has named Ian Williams as the head of their digital division, Wynn Interactive. This puts him in charge of all the daily operations of the company globally.

Williams has been with WynnBet since last fall, serving as the chief operating officer. He brings a lot of experience to the position, having worked in the field for more than two decades. Before joining WynnBet, Williams spent five years as the head of online gaming at Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI), where he helped expand their digital business.

Williams has a long and impressive career in the gaming industry, including 17 years of top-level experience in the United States. He also started sports data company Thistle Gaming and spent time as a partnership director at William Hill.

This announcement comes at a time of significant change for Wynn Resorts. CEO Matt Maddox is leaving in 2022, and Wynn Interactive CEO and group COO Craig Billings will take his place.

The appointment of Williams is also interesting given the recent news that Wynn Interactive’s merger with Austerlitz Acquisition Corp. was canceled. The company has changed its marketing strategy, and Maddox previously suggested that the investment needed to compete in the U.S. sports betting market was not sustainable.

WynnBet recently secured authorization to provide sports wagering in the state of New York. They collaborated with Kambi to achieve this goal. WynnBet also gained entry into the West Virginia market through a partnership with Delaware North.
