The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) recently took measures against FreeBetsDotCom due to an Instagram advertisement featuring Manchester United player Mason Mount. The promotion, which appeared in July 2023, sparked worries because it prominently displayed Mount, who is younger than 25, in an endorsement for a service connected to wagering.

FreeBetsDotCom is a platform that gathers betting deals from various bookmakers. Although it doesn’t directly manage bets, the ASA contended that by showcasing Mount, the advertisement still promoted involvement with gambling, which is irresponsible considering his age.

Furthermore, FreeBetsDotCom’s parent company, XLMedia, neglected to address the ASA’s inquiries. This absence of collaboration further breached advertising regulations concerning prompt communication.

This situation underscores the stringent regulations in Britain surrounding gambling advertisements, particularly the focus on safeguarding young individuals from being targeted by these kinds of promotions.

A promotional piece with 24-year-old Mason Mount endorsing betting platforms has ignited debate and been prohibited. The UK’s advertising regulatory body, the ASA, ruled that featuring someone of Mount’s age in a wagering advertisement breached their regulations on ethical conduct. They particularly highlighted the stipulation barring the inclusion of individuals below 25 in such promotions. Consequently, the advertisement cannot be displayed again in its present format, and XLMedia, the firm responsible, has been cautioned against prominently using comparable young personalities in upcoming campaigns. The ASA is additionally submitting the matter for further measures regarding potential legal violations.
