France Tightens Grip on Sports Betting Market

Frances gaming authority, the ANJ, is scrutinizing the nation’s sports wagering sector. Operating since 2010, France has maintained a somewhat restricted selection of permissible sports and wagers – a “sports roster” that has undergone periodic adjustments. The ANJ acknowledges that it has become convoluted and unclear.

Their December proclamation centered on streamlining the system. They are clamping down on wagers that appear to rely more on chance than expertise, aiming to thwart dubious activities. They are also exercising selectivity in determining which events are included.

What exactly is changing? Firstly, the inventory of sanctioned events is being reduced by 179. Some were eliminated due to their discontinuation, while others were deemed susceptible to match manipulation – for instance, Tunisia’s premier soccer league. Others, such as Armenia’s top soccer league, were excluded for lacking the significance or credibility to satisfy the ANJ’s criteria.

Following these revisions, the list now comprises 772 authorized competitions. The ANJ appears to be conveying a resolute stance on ensuring the integrity and transparency of French sports betting.

Frances gaming regulator, the ANJ, has provided further explanation on permissible wager types for players. Although minor phrasing adjustments have been implemented, the total quantity of wagers offered remains mostly unaffected.

In essence, specific wagers have been consolidated into wider classifications. As an illustration, rather than providing wagers on precise point totals in basketball, providers can now offer wagers on whether a player will achieve “above or below” a designated point threshold.

These modifications follow a prior ANJ statement concerning advertising limitations. The ANJ has heightened its examination of proposed marketing initiatives from gaming entities operating within France.
